County Council candidate Eric Olson has nearly 25 years experience in public service. Yet, a last-minute map to change council district lines threatened to render him ineligible to run, along with two other highly-viable candidates in other districts. Despite the strong and unanimous public outcry, the 6 member bloc voted for the gerrymandered version. Only when the Circuit court found the new plan unlawful, and the Maryland Court of Appeals agreed, was the original map created by the redistricting commission able to be reinstated.
This experience has galvanized a new awareness among county residents. Eric spoke with Clean Slate People about the importance of accountability in public life.
