Takoma Park Library resource maven, Phil Shapiro, has been finding ways to add knowledge and build community for decades. In a recent interview, he shared some of the lessons learned from helping one refugee family. He explains the way that informal networks of people can surround and support newly arrived families, whether immigrant, refugee, unhoused, or going through some challenge.
In a second interview, he proposes a way to revive the local news aspect of newspapers through citizens recording their opinion/editorial views on video, perhaps at local libraries, for submission to news outlets.
Each of us has something to offer, some ability or asset. It might be time, or some special skill. It might be transportation or a location or something gently used that could fill some need others have.
Phil is a treasure trove of all kinds of innovative ways to share good things. Enjoy!
