County Council At-Large Candidate Stanford Fraser has a bold new solution to the 90 percent of 911 calls that do not require police as first responders. Mobile teams of a social worker, medical worker or other trained intervention specialists could be dispatched to help in situations that are not law-related, but rather, indicate a different type of crisis.
Denver has used this system, and is now expanding it. For Prince George's county, such units might relieve unnecessary police time on non-police matters, while helping citizens get access to the specific supports that can help resolve their issue.
